The engine was a liquid cooled twin, four-stroke. A 62.0 x 49.0 mm (2.4 x 1.9 inches) stroke result in a displacement of just 296.00 ccm (18.06 cubic inches). The engine features a 10.6:1 compression ratio. Fuel was supplied via a double overhead cams/twin cam (dohc).
The bike has a 6-speed transmission. The final drive was via chain.
It came with a 110/70-17 front tire and a 140/70-17 rear tire. The front suspension was a 37mm hydraulic telescopic fork while the rear was equiped with a uni-trak with 5-way adjustable preload The Ninja 300 is fitted with a 17.03 litres (4.50 gallons) fuel tank.
