The engine was a air cooled v2, four-stroke. A 81.0 x 96.8 mm (3.2 x 3.8 inches) stroke result in a displacement of just 997.00 ccm (60.84 cubic inches). The engine features a 9.0:1 compression ratio. Fuel was supplied via a overhead valves (ohv).


The bike has a 4-speed transmission. The final drive was via chain.


It came with a 100/90-19 front tire and a 130/90-16 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via dual disc in the front and a single disc in the rear. The XR1000 is fitted with a 9.50 litres (2.51 gallons) fuel tank.
