The engine was a liquid cooled in-line four, four-stroke. A 80.0 x 49.7 mm (3.1 x 2.0 inches) stroke result in a displacement of just 999.00 ccm (60.96 cubic inches). The engine features a 12.0:1 compression ratio. Fuel was supplied via a double overhead cams/twin cam (dohc).
The bike has a 6-speed transmission. The final drive was via chain.
It came with a 120/70-zr17 front tire and a 190/55-zr17 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via double disc. abs. floating discs. four-piston calipers. in the front and a single disc. abs. floating disc. in the rear. The front suspension was a upside-down telescopic fork 46 mm, compression and rebound stage adjustable while the rear was equiped with a aluminium 2-sided swing arm, rebound damping adjustable The S1000XR is fitted with a 20.00 litres (5.28 gallons) fuel tank. The bike weighs just 178.0 kg (392.4 pounds). The wheelbase is 1,548 mm (60.9 inches) long.
